About Christine Murray, Founder of The Source for Survivors

Picture
Hello, I'm Christine Murray, and my mission through The Source for Survivors is to make a real impact in the lives of survivors and bridge gaps between research and practice to improve the support available to those impacted by abuse. This mission holds special significance for me because I'm also on my own healing journey as a survivor.

My commitment to understanding and addressing intimate partner violence and other forms of abuse has been a central theme in my work. I explore this passion through research, writing, teaching, and community-based partnerships.

Additionally, I'm the Co-Founder of
See the Triumph, a research-based social media campaign aiming to support survivors and end the stigma they often face. As of the summer of 2024, See the Triumph is now a resource that is managed through The Source for Survivors. I also led the team that developed the Healthy Relationships Initiative, a preventive approach that aims to promote happy, healthy, and safe relationships of all kinds.

Currently, I am a Professor of Counseling at the
Townsend Institute for Leadership & Counseling at Concordia University Irvine. I also work in my counseling and consulting practice, Start Here Counseling & Consulting, PLLC, where my focus is on providing trauma-informed, solution-oriented services that promote mental health, healthy relationships, and thriving communities. I'm a Licensed Mental Health Professional serving clients virtually in two states: North Carolina and Pennsylvania.

I am also a Professor Emerita in the Department of Counseling and Educational Development at UNC Greensboro, where I served on the faculty from 2005-2024. Also while working at UNCG, I was the Director of the Center for Youth, Family, and Community Partnerships from 2019-2023.

Two of the books I've written focus on readers who are survivors of abuse: Triumph Over Abuse and The Verbal Abuse Recovery Workbook. For those curious to learn more, many of my research publications are available through
NC DOCKS, and you can find out more about my work at christinemurray.info.
